Si vous envisagez de pratiquer votre sport au niveau universitaire, voici une statistique que vous devriez prendre en compte : 1 238 athlètes aux Jeux olympiques de Paris étaient des étudiants actuels, anciens ou entrants dans 253 écoles membres de la NCAA.
D’autres athlètes ont fréquenté les institutions NAIA.
Au sein de la NCAA, les trois divisions étaient représentées aux Jeux de Paris : la division I comptait 1 186 étudiants-athlètes, la division II, 55 et la division III, 13. Au total, 550 étudiants ont concouru dans les sports masculins et 688 dans les sports féminins.
Si les États-Unis et le Canada avaient le plus grand nombre d’étudiants-sportifs aux Jeux, 125 pays des sept continents étaient présents à Paris avec des athlètes issus des écoles de la NCAA.
